We ARE hillbillies!

July24, 2005

My dear husband wants me to assure the internet (and my mother, who may or may not be reading this post) that the bathroom-with-the-bugs-swimming-in-the-toilet is in the basement, and that we don’t use it or enter the room on a regular basis. That should do it for a disclaimer, I guess.
On another note, here are some things recently seen and heard around here:
“Mama, I wanna go play in the ‘fwinkaler.’”
Playing along, I say,”You want to go play in the ‘fwinkaler?’”
Annoyed that I’m not understanding her correctly, she replies, “NO, the ‘fwinkaler!’”
Not wanting to damage her psyche, “Oh, the sprinkler…okay.”
She replies, “Right, the ‘fwinkaler’.” So cute.

Small Bean rapt with wonder and amazement at the sight of the swingset in the back yard.
Small Bean taking her snaps at supper and destroying them in an effort to get the little beans out of the inside. They are apparently the best part, according to Grace Anne.
Pea Pod and Small Bean sleeping until 9:20 this morning. Miracles do happen! (Yes, they were up late, late last night!) And yes, Pea Pod had been up before that, but amazingly went back to sleep after eating.

Tadpoles inside?

July22, 2005

Okay, so it’s never a good thing when you find small living things actually swimming around in your toilet. Never good! I walked into our basement bathroom tonight to fill up Athen’s water bowl, and I happened to glance into the toilet. I did a double-take and realized that there were little brown things that looked like tadpoles swimming around in the water! After calling for immediate back-up from my dear, valiant husband, we looked around to notice that there were several large mosquitoes on the inside walls of the toilet and also on the walls of the bathroom. There were mosquito larvae-things swimming in my potty!!! Anyway, they were dispatched w/ a quick flush, some able-bodied swatting, and bleach in the water. I’ll sleep better tonight, however, I now have “bug-itis”…scratch, scratch. Totally gross!
On another note, Peapod is doing the army crawl well enough that she went down the step between the kitchen and the den today…head first. Oops. We were both sad, and we are SO into a new phase. I better get some sleep….it’s beginning.

It’s supposed to be a spa, right?

July20, 2005

Our remodeled bathroom is supposed to look like a spa, or at least that’s the idea. It has the original black and white tile, and we’ve stripped the wall paper and patched all the holes and painted it a fairly bright aqua color. Sometimes the color looks great–it has that spa feeling. But sometimes it looks like we smeared Crest all over the walls, and you wonder, if you took a big whif, if they would smell like toothpaste.
Maybe I’ll repaint, and then maybe I won’t.
Adam has a new picture of Peapod up. I just love those blue eyes! She’s getting pretty proficient at the army crawl and has started to really annoy the dog. She scoots over to him, and he gets up and moves 2 feet away, which used to be enough. However, she just keeps scooting, and he has to move again. It’s actually pretty funny to watch. She thinks it’s great fun.

4th of July

We got back from Hanshill late tonight…close to 10pm. Katie and Jon and Nate are here from CA, and we had a delicious supper of fried chicken (I’ve been having a craving for fried chicken), macaroni salad, Man Salad (any salad w/ ranch dressing–a la Tom), and chocolate for dessert. Of course, no family supper would be complete without the chocolate.
Adam dug up over 15 azaleas from the bottom terrace this afternoon. He’s making room for a big swing set that the Barths are giving us from the yard of their new house. Small Bean is so exited about it! Very cute.
Found a new magazine that I might have to check out: Total 180!
It looks interesting. We’ll see.
OH–forgot to mention that major kudos go to my darling husband for my fabulous birthday/anniversary present. Diamond earrings! Wow. He’s so good! Diamonds are definitely a girl’s best friend!
